About The Department
The department of Pharmacology was established in 2012 to train undergraduate students. Currently, our department provides quality education in Pharmacology and therapeutics for undergraduate and post graduate medical, undergraduate nursing and also for Allied health sciences students.
The department trains Indian medical graduates to become competent in prescribing drugs rationally to treat common ailments and monitor adverse drug reactions. The practical training curriculum has been recently updated to focus on clinical applications and basics of therapeutics.
The faculties of the Department are actively involved in quality multi-center research projects of national and international importance. Focus of research in various domains of pharmacology like antibiotic stewardship programme, drug resistance & projects on prevention and treatment of communicable and Non Communicable Diseases (NCDs).
Facilities
- Computer Assisted Learning (CAL) Laboratory: The department has a well-equipped lab with computers, audio-visual aids, and access to CAL software to learn experimental pharmacology through simulation.
- Simulation Mannequins: The department has Simulation Mannequins for providing hands-on training on various routes of drug administration.
- Research Laboratory: The department Research Laboratory is well-equipped with instruments to carry out bioassays and various screening experiments.
- Pharmacovigilance Program: The Adverse Drug Reactions (ADRs) monitoring center was started by the Department of Pharmacology at SUIMS in 2012. Currently, the ADR Monitoring Centre (AMC) is part of the Pharmacovigilance Program of India (PvPI) and is an approved AMC by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
The members of this committee meet periodically to provide suggestions for the improvement of the activities of program.The ongoing activities include spontaneous reporting, active surveillance in select departments and conduct of training and awareness sessions for the health care professionals to enhance ADR reporting.

• On the occasion of “World Hypertension Day”, National CME on “Emerging Trends in Diatension” was conducted on 17 May 2018 along with poster presentation on Hypertension for UG students.
• KSMPCON 2025 scheduled to be conducted at our institute in the month of November 2025
